Re: LM Rear Wheel Backspacing Help Needed

Edited the post above with the spacer size, the original ones were not quite right. Re-measured and ordered a set of custom poly rings from US Wheel Adapters in the following size that did fit like a glove:

2.779" (70.6mm) to 3.19” (81.03mm)

Re: LM Rear Wheel Backspacing Help Needed

Got the 225/60–14 BFG Radial T/As installed on the rear wheels, 14x7 with 4” backspace - works great :-)

Re: LM Rear Wheel Backspacing Help Needed

Measured the bore and ID of the wheels, Bore OD is ~2.8" (71.12mm) and the Rally wheel ID is ~3.188" (80.98mm). Got a set of aluminium rings on the way from Australia of all places via eBay, 71.1mm-81.1mm. Will give them a try. Si Edit: The size above did not work. Re-measured and ordered ...

Re: LM Rear Wheel Backspacing Help Needed

Kinda leaning that way Dave, the kids will be riding in the back so for the inexpensive price of those at the link you sent I'll pick some up. I'll measure the size next time I'm over there.

Re: LM Rear Wheel Backspacing Help Needed

Wheel update, got the Rallys installed today to check the fitment :-). Looks good with the 215/60-14 tyres and 4” backspace. One question though, the hole in the wheel centre is larger than the Corvair wheels- Corvair hubs/wheels are not hub centric right?

Re: LM Rear Wheel Backspacing Help Needed

Sounds good, once we get a couple of new tyres on the rims and get them mounted will start at 30R and 20F cold. Up here in Oregon we have extra safety margin temperature wise ;-)

Re: 4 speed and differential oil change

Great info :-) How much gear oil does it take to fill?

Re: LM Rear Wheel Backspacing Help Needed

I believe the Explorer issue was related to people freeway driving on hot days with under inflated tyres. Makes me wonder about the low pressures people typically use on the fronts of Corvairs. What pressures do you use on your rally wheels?

Re: LM Rear Wheel Backspacing Help Needed

Glad it held together, were they Firestone tires on a 100 deg day?!

Re: LM Rear Wheel Backspacing Help Needed

If the car is only driven 5 miles then some old and cracked rollers are fine ;-) Note to self, check the date stamps on the two BFGs.....

Re: LM Rear Wheel Backspacing Help Needed

Dave, great minds think alike as your car looks awesome with these wheels! I'll put them on with the 215s on for now and see how much room we have left, two of the tyres are junk so will figure out how staggered we can go.

Re: LM Rear Wheel Backspacing Help Needed

Appreciate the input, turns out they have 215/60-14 on them not 205. A little wider but smaller diameter than the 70 tyre. Took the plunge and they now grace the garage floor, will see how they fit :-) Don't think they were a bad deal for $250. Need to figure out lugnuts next as I believe we need di...

Re: LM Rear Wheel Backspacing Help Needed

Great website Dave thank you :-) Punched in the numbers and it backs up what I am thinking: if a 245/60-14 with 4.25" backspace will fit without rubbing, a 225/60-14 with 4" backspace will have more clearance (0.1' more). It's not much more but a miss is as good as a mile :-) Do you think ...

LM Rear Wheel Backspacing Help Needed

All, I found a nice set of Chevy Rally wheels on CL for our '65 Cor-za, the size being 14x7 with 4" backspace. The Rallys currently have 205/60-14 tyres on them, our car is the stock ride height. The research I have done (autoxer's website etc) shows, these would work great for the fronts. Howe...

Re: Stinger Distributor Questions

Update on this topic, got the Stinger installed today and the engine runs like a champ- very happy :-). We had to knock the tin in a bit to allow the cap to fit. I took the advice above about where to get power with a slight twist. I removed the resistor wire connector from the engine harness side, ...
