Re: 64 Monza low on power

No carbs that are any good that I can swap. I still have a few items that were suggested that I haven't tried yet. I'll keep posting if anything comes up.

Re: 64 Monza low on power

I don't think the carbs are that far out and they both appear to be functioning although they probably are not synchronized properly. I just need to eliminate one thing at a time. This shouldn't be such a hard problem to solve, but I am missing something.

Re: 64 Monza low on power

Does this need to be done prior to balancing the carbs? It has it listed in the manual before the balancing section.

Re: 64 Monza low on power

The info I have from the Tune Up Guide Section 7 says "Connect vacuum gauge to adapter (fig. 7-4) on the vacuum balance tube. (remove transmission vacuum line on auto trans) adjust curb idle speed (duplicate idle on both carbs) to attain approximate idle speed shown in chart for each engine. Ad...

Re: 64 Monza low on power

Okay, this gives me something else to check. I do have a question concerning adjusting the curb idle and mixture with a vacuum gauge. I may have misunderstood the directions when it said to connect the vacuum gauge to the adapter on the balance tube. I connected it using a T and the two vacuum ports...

Re: 64 Monza low on power

With the engine running I put my hand over the right carb, in about 1-2 seconds the engine starts to choke off (same with the left carb). I advanced the timing and test drove it again (possibly a little better, but could be my imagination). I advanced a little more and this time the car drove worse....

Re: 64 Monza low on power

The missing is actually more when first accelerating and not as much at higher RPM, but still no power with more acceleration. I do thank everyone for their help. I do belong to the Northern VA Corvair Club since last January and go to all the meetings. They have helped answer questions and have sug...

Re: 64 Monza low on power

I little more history. I had the same issues before once I installed new rings and someone suggested I do a hot adjustment, which I did, but the adjustment didn't change. At the time I was getting a low compression reading even after installing the new rings and valve adjustments. I figured that the...

Re: 64 Monza low on power

New tank, sending unit, fuel lines and plump. Both carbs are getting gas. The plugs from the left bank appear to be getting a richer mixture than the right although both carbs are adjusted the same.

Re: 64 Monza low on power

I also took an ohm reading (1.9 low side and 8.9 high side).

Re: 64 Monza low on power

No, I didn't get pinging when I advance the timing. I did advance it until the engine RPM started to slow and the vacuum started to decrease, I don't recall how much I advanced it.

I believe I have a 1963 102-HP engine in my 64 with the 60-63 riveted pulley.

Re: 64 Monza low on power

One other thing. The diagram you attached for the carbs show the two gaskets recommended for both sides of the insulator. The insulator has two small cutouts in the center that conform to the base of the carbs however the gaskets do not? Since the gaskets didn't appear to match the carbs i only used...

Re: 64 Monza low on power

I do not have the info on the coil, but it was purchased for a 1963 Corvair. (on the coil it has "External Resister Required" #1303 and on the bottom is #0116) the wires are connected properly and I have a new condenser/resistor on the side purchased from Corvair Ranch. Is there a way to c...

Re: 64 Monza low on power

I believe I have the stock damper. I did try to advance the timing, which did increase the vacuum reading but didn't seem to increase the power. The mechanical advance weights are moving freely and give about 8 degrees advance. I installed a new vacuum advance, which appears to be working properly. ...
