Only 70 years old? That's new stuff around here....
I am NOT cutting and rewelding a Snap-On, Wright, Mac or Matco wrench to get to a hidden fastener. That's what the less expensive wrenches are for.

Re: 1964 rear brake drum ?
If you had a 64 rear drum, which is a RARE beast, in your hand you will see the lip of the drum is different than your 62 where it fits to the backing plate. The 64 has a more water slinging lip.

:welcome: :welcome2: :welcomeparty: A friend who imports cars from the States recommended that a later model would be a better choice in terms of usability I don't understand what he means. They all drove when new! There were more early models made than late models. Only the 140 engine was not avail...

Remove the two 1/4" hex headed screws on either the top or bottom panel.

Re: Cleaning ductwork
Remove plastic duct, vacuum out as best you can. Vacuum a string through it, then use the string to pull bleach rag/wipes through it.
Then do same for plastic ducts in the front of the car.
And of course the upper engine shroud (aka turkey roaster) and lower shrouds need to be vacuumed.

American Mel is right...some original pumps are still in service.
Yes, but they are hard to source for replacements for most people! The local FLAPS does not have them on the shelf.

Re: Brake Shoes
You can file/grind the shoe pads on the backing plate as shown in shop manual. Or weld up the grooves and file/grind flat. I have not had a drum turned in 40 years. Lining is cheap and can be made to fit drum. 1964 rear drums were unavailable for years and expensive used. No need to remove unobtain...

OK, then the "boss" for the drain hole is cast into all the 287s, and drilled as needed. So what is the part number then? OK, I should go read my P&A 30 myself.... :rolling: But it is the latest one, so many numbers have been consolidated. I was wondering if the 286 might be the part ...

Maybe an inch. Ken did a great writeup on the process back on the old CCF forum. It might be searchable there.

Re: Rocker Panel Trim not coming off 1966 four-door
I've never seen adhesive on any Corvair rocker trim. Just screws at the end and a steel (or two pieces of steel) rocker molding retainers. Once the screws are out, lift the trim up from the bottom starting at an end. Be careful not to bend the trim. if it comes off with a slight curve instead of st...

Re: New Corvair Owner - Hello!
Your 500 emblem was removed in the painting process. Now, if just paint, then the emblem holes would still be there, so there is either 1. welded up holes (extremely rare, as it is a lot of work for a person dedicated to clean lines only) 2. body filler because they didn't like the holes (and to us...

YES! It is like Amazon's whole page.
I agree, at least a little over 20 for any radial on the front of a Corvair car. Then fine tune with looking at the tread pattern, chalk, etc and how it feels driving.
