Re: CCLARK'S SMALL CHROME AIR CLEANERS
Why can't people try to stick to answering the original question. In this instance a better way of mounting the Clark air filters! Because we like to see the engine as a whole system and make sure the result is not less than what was started with. With a question of how to mount the small ...

Re: Stripped screw in my distributor.
That post only served to hold a foam lubricating pad that rubbed against the distributor cam lobes and provided some lubricant on the cam (to reduce wear of the ignition points rubbing block). ???????? NO!   The post is the pivot point for the moveable points plate (how the...

Re: Wanted: Early Model Battery
Ask around an old Lincoln welder repair shop. The group 53 was used in Lincoln gas engine welders for years. In all probability they have been recycled, but.... That's why we all use group 51R batteries in earlies and FCs now. If only the group 51R came with caps, then AACA judges would not ...

Re: New owner here- couple questions
Yes, those are the inboard anchor points. IIRC, The outboard anchor points on an early convertible are in the rocker area. This is because the convertible has an extra inside rocker structure for strength, so there is no floor there, just rocker structure.

Re: Thermistor or Gauge Malfunction?
Good point Andria, those non-contact temperature guns are GREAT! for diagnosing heating or cooling issues. A must have tool. I even use mine to see how hot my cast iron frying pan is.

Re: Thermistor or Gauge Malfunction?
Did the engine "smell" hot or was it pinging more than normal? If not, probably not reading right. Lates (Corsas) seem to run about 375 on the gauge, while earlies (Spyders) tend to run 400. Either if they reach a real 600 should be pinging like crazy and the red light should have come on...

On a 65 it is easier to re-tumbler the trunk and glove box to match the door/ignition key.

Re: Upper Control arm bushing nut torque
That sure does sound like a lot for a 5/15 bolt, but it is not listed as an error in Bob Helt's list of errors. Do you have a copy?
But that is well past 5/16" specs, it is into 3/8" UNC grade 8 specs.
Bob, have you done this yet? Was it a 1/2" or 9/16" wrench?

Re: Stripped screw in my distributor.
I'm not sure why that post needs to be removed, having not installed a Fast system in 20 years. but, that is a POST! Not a screw. It just happens to have been swedged into place with a cross pattern tool. It is the pivot for the points plate. That post is what wears, along with the points plate, to...

Re: Power top on the 63
Yep, 61 manual and the 62 Supplement (not the 62/63 Supplement that is available now) do not cover a convertible, power or not, since the convertible body was put into production over halfway through the model production year! The 65 Shop Manual does not cover body, you would need the 1965 C...

Re: EM - Axle rubbing on A-Arm opening
I was driving a five person carpool in my '64 4 door when one of the transverse spring end bolts broke, and I drove to a service station (remember those?) and had him remove the transverse spring. Car sat on the rear bump stops to and from work. Never did the axle rub. Wow, that brake drum looks ve...

Re: Question about running a turbo motor without exhaust..
???
Except for the Corvair, all other YH applications I can think of are non-aspirated. Blue Flame Six, Marine, etc.
When the turbo is locked up the YH runs the car fine. Reduced power, yes.
Not like you can demonstrate boost sitting on the floor!

Re: Power top on the 63
Page 10-47 of the 1964 Shop Manual Supplement has the electrical checking procedure. Red wire is raising the top, green wire is lowering the top. Black wire might be ground from motor to chassis, as the motor mounts on rubber isolators for noise. This is just a short jumper from motor/pump assembly...

Re: New owner here- couple questions
The factory put nuts in the floor for front seat belts even in the '60 model year. And most states required them in the 64 model year, but some didn't and of course people removed them because (message redacted :rolling: ). Or the floor was rusty and someone welded in new sections and never put the...

Re: CCLARK'S SMALL CHROME AIR CLEANERS
Someone said even the road draft tube has some scavenging effect when the car is underway. Um, that's exactly what the road draft tube is supposed to do! Suck crankcase vapors out of the engine and put them into the air outside the car/engine compartment. In order to suck air out, there is...

Re: Power top on the 63
One wire is for up, the other wire is for down. The third wire to the switch was the power to the switch. This power comes through the circuit breaker in the stock wiring.
