Throttle Plate Screws Broken

I have been rebuilding Corvair Carburetors for 44+ years. I have now seen something new. I rebuilt a set of 1966 PG carbs for my 4 door and set them in a box in the garage two years ago. I pulled them out and put them on my 2 door 1966 as a try and see if the running issue is a carburetor issue. Wh...

Re: How dumb is it to reuse piston rings on a engine being rebuilt?

I typed a reply and it disappeared! I assume I hit the wrong button.... :rolling: Anyway, I would reuse 145 cu. in. pistons, after careful inspection. They do not have the habit of breaking like the 164 cu. in. pistons. I would buy new rings. Cast seat in quick, Chrome/Moly last a lot longer but ta...

Re: Timing Light Questions

Russell Davis sells a tool to remove the harmonic balancer without lowering the engine! He sells it through Clarks or his website: https://www.bluechiptools.com/product-page/corvair-harmonic-balancer-puller-and-rear-seal-install-tool You just remove the oil filter. Also buy the crank seal. :tu: And...

Re: Space saver tires revisited

I'm interested in this subject. All my space savers in my Park Avenues have aged out. you can tell because one has split open and another has wavy tread! When I ask for a replacement tire the local stores say Not Available! And I have not found tires online either. :td:

Re: No more Bando 3V560 fan belts???

BUT they also have belts with multiple "V" channels (serpentine belt) using this number with suffixes. Just an FYI, a banded belt is not a serpentine belt. A banded belt is for applications using multiple groove sheaves on motor and load. They are not intended to run on a smooth pulley on...

Re: Vented & Unvented Gas Tank Filler Caps

Yep, very common issue back when non vented caps became available on the store shelves! Or a mason bee builds a nest in the vent pipe. :rolling: All diaphragm pumps on engines will suck a tank inward. I’ve blown some back out with a little air pressure. In effect it was only 14psi sucking them in (...

So wouldn’t, an empty barrel from an NOS smog assembly be exactly what you are looking for too? :chevy:

Re: New to ALL THIS! just got this 62 Corvair Monza 900

Should be 10AWG, as a 10AWG red wire feeds the body harness. 12AWG would be a weak link in the circuit. Complete circle is how electrons flow.

Re: New to ALL THIS! just got this 62 Corvair Monza 900

The factory negative battery cable was a braid type, then went from the battery negative to the CHASSIS bolt, then to the engine head bolt. You NEED that connection to chassis. At least a #10 AWG wire from either negative terminal or the engine head bolt back to chassis. The factory added a second ...

Re: 63 monza bogs down when warm and accelerating

First thing. Only use one or two keys on your keyring. The extra weight can cause problems on a worn switch. Exactly why I asked the question! And yep, Brad that is why I asked the question. Broken points wire is a common defect now due to hardened insulation not having any give. Also the ...

Re: 63 monza bogs down when warm and accelerating

Need background to give better answers. 1. Points or Pertronix? 2. All original wiring harnesses? 3. One or two keys on ring or lots of keys that are heavy? 4. When the carburetors were apart, was there any fine grit inside or globs of green water? :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow: Leave the valves ...

Gates 3V560 Automotive vs Industrial Part #s

Well, I emailed Gates and got the answer as to why two different part numbers for the 3V560 belt that works so well on our Corvairs. Here is the answer: Hello Frank, It’s the same belt. The automotive sleeve version comes with a cardboard sleeve like in the image below. Sorry for the confusion. But...

Re: New to Corvairs: Just purchased a 66 Corsa

please change the transaxle lube if it is dirty. Must use GL-4. And not a lube bottle that says "for GL-4 and GL-5 applications" or such. GL-4 only. Not common on FLAPS shelf. And 80W or so, not 90W only, but multi vis with 90 as high number OK. 90 will work, just hard shifting i...

Re: Overheated

I emailed Gates technical assistance for an answer. The online website does list a 3V560 Super HC V Belt and then the same description but in parenthesis Automotive Sleeved. They have the same UPC number, but different Gates part numbers and several other specifications are off by a slight amount, ...
