Re: Cad-kid's 65 Monza - my first Corvair

Thanks for the reply. Yes I keep, hearing that message 😀 But IMHO the $800 number I got to install my supplied,Clarks covers is just too expensive for my restoration budget..... I am pretty handy and my time is free On top of that the expectation was that I provide all the other supplies...... Felt c...

Re: Cad-kid's 65 Monza - my first Corvair

What did you use for stapling the rear seat back cover to the frame?

What type of staples and stapler...... I have tried various manual staplers, and staple types with no success.....

Seem the original was held in by 22 ga 3/16 wide by 5/16 crown staples.

Thanks

Re: Vacuum circuit

Hi again guys had the car running today and had a chance to check the trany fluid level....... Nothing was really hot but the fluid was just showing on the dip-stick nub........so regardless of temperature...... I am guessing it is low. I am convinced the modulator valve is leaking since there don't...

Re: Vacuum circuit

Thanks for the vacuum circuit picture, very informative...... I really do suspect the modulator valve so I have already ordered one even if it is not the problem, it can't hurt to replace or have a spare:) As I said the only way the oil could have got to,where I found it was the rubber coupler, so I...

Vacuum circuit

Hi everyone I am sure this has been asked before but my search did not reveal anything for me........ I have been cleaning the top of my engine so I noticed this after going for a drive...... There was a little puddle of oil just below the vacuum balance tube on the right side of the engine, and it ...

Air Breather intake horn(s)

Here is something I have always wondered about......... Why do the combustion air intake horns on the breather face the back of the engine compartment........ I would have thought it would be better to face them forward so they could draw in cold air? Of course when I was young I ran with the air cl...

Re: Painting Engine tins

Thanks for all the paint suggestions....I think I will try the paint first, over powder coat..... that way I can work away at the tins myself individually rather than ripping everything apart all at once. Also what was the factory standard for paint in the rest of the engine compartment? Things like...

Painting Engine tins

Hi everyone I was thinking of cleaning up my engine compartment over the winter and I had a couple of questions about color and temperature . First it looks like all the shrouds that fill the gap between the engine and the frame rails are painted in something between gloss and flat black......back i...

Summer/ winter engine compartment heat plate

Hi everyone My 66 does not have the Sumer/winter plate installed , I only plan to drive the car in the summer so I was just going to make up a sheet metal plate, but then I noticed the plate on the Clarks site has a finger that sticks down into the heater box.....what is this finger for? Does it jus...

Re: 66 am radio schematic - model 986116

Radio is back in the car and it sounds great .... Well for AM anyway.....luckily I spend most of my time listening to talk radio.

The guy that repaired the radio even replaced the grill cloth on the speaker........

One more item off my Corvair to-do list.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Re: Carb sync problem or maybe not?

Thanks again guys..... I did reach out to Pertronix and they asked me to run some tests, much like,Jim suggested so I need to go borrow or buy a tach....... They were also interested in the voltage at the coil...... I have to say I was pretty happy with the response time from Pertronix......they als...

Re: Carb sync problem or maybe not?

It figures I looked at Ignitor I but I figured dwell control as well would be good so I went with the Ignitor II........ Besides 2 is better than 1 right! :). I still have the old coil anyway......so it would not be a problem......could probably run a series resistor to compensate for the low coil r...
