Re: '62 Ramp revamp

I purchased this Rampside last October in Ramona, CA. Since then I've had the transmission swapped from a early '61 FC (4.26 first gear) and rebuilt. Also I've had the differential swapped and rebuilt with 3.27 gears. Mike Moreno of the IECC rebuilt the engine with +60 forged pistons and rods and r...

Re: Yanking the drivetrain on my 180 Horse....

Shrouds look a little dusty. Better get on that. :rolling: Dude, you should see how windy it gets out here! Anyhow, here's the (almost) finished product. Seems to run good and sound healthy, no oil leaks or weird noises. I made some mad progress on this thing last week when I took off a week and di...

Re: Ball joint for FC/ what reamer to use?

Truck rides awesome! My suspension geometry is basically stock. Yes, stock springs. I'm going to be taking it off the road soon, and put Shockwave 9000's for the tri-5 up front, that way I can really slam it for lo-slow cruisin' and raise it back up when things get bumpy. The M/C is a late '60's du...

Re: Ball joint for FC/ what reamer to use?

Hey guys. I was the one that pioneered the Tri-5 Drop Spindle set up. Unfortuneately I don't know the specs on the FC lower ball joint, as I was re-doing the entire front end and had a loose example to take to the machine shop as a reference. Here's a shot of the jig for reaming out the lower ball ...

Re: Yanking the drivetrain on my 180 Horse....

Here in the North East (on a daily driver), I LOVE an oily engine with an oily undercarriage. Nuts and bolts rust so damn quick up here. Oil soaked cars may have thier downside, the upside is not having to deal with rusted off, broken bolts. Having to drill and tap. Using heat. Whatever it takes is...

Re: Ball joint for FC/ what reamer to use?

It is therefor possible that I tackle this upgrade before you do. My truck has its drivetrain out and the complete front suspension out. I am in the process of getting everything to the powder coater and rebuilding the front suspension. I am quite sure it has never been disassembled ( riveted on bal...

Re: Ball joint for FC/ what reamer to use?

I found a post elsewhere from someone who had done this conversion using Heidts spindles for a 55'57 chevy. They were able to bolt on the stock FC steering arms and all they had to modify was having the lower ball joint opening reamed at a local shop. I still haven't been able to find any more deta...

Re: Yanking the drivetrain on my 180 Horse....

Personally: engines are full of oil, and if you have a DD the reality is there's gonna be a mess under there no matter how good at sealing you are. Show cars are another matter. For me the easiest thing to do is powerwash it before breaking out hte tools, problem solved. I don't have a place to pow...

Re: Yanking the drivetrain on my 180 Horse....

Actually.....the plan is....(and I've done all the tin shrouding so far) to take my engine, piece by piece to work everyday and soak it in boiling hot water and soap (we have tanks) for a few hours and then hit with a parts brush for about 5 minutes. The crud just falls off and everything looks alm...

Re: Yanking the drivetrain on my 180 Horse....

What the hell.....might as well make a thread about it. At least then I can gauge how long this project is taking me. I decided to pull my drivetrain on my '65 Corsa turbo to fix oil leaks from the transaxle and the engine too, as well as fixing my non-boosting turbo (well, maybe only 2 psi of boos...

Re: Car 4sp in an FC

You'll need a 4 speed fc trans mount . I got mine from Jeff @ California Corvairs I believe it cost $40 .He has a big bin full of various cross members. You'll also need the correct input shaft and clutch disk (has to do with number of splines) also available @ ca corvairs/ If you have any questions...

Re: Car 4sp in an FC

my '61 rampy (rusty truck has a car 4peed and car 110 engine.) came with the truck. I've seen many out there .I know the main difference in some years are the gear ratios and the absence of a back-up switch port.I am in the process of transplanting this powertrain into my other '61 rampside,(ugly tr...

Re: Rescued a '63 Coupe yesturday

Well we rescued the sister car to the '65 Evening Orchid 4 door. It is a 1963 Coupe, PG, Dealer installed A/C. The car has been sitting since 1968. It has 60,000 miles on it. Some really neat old items inside too. I'll take some pics when I go through it and post them up. http://hphotos-sjc1.fbcdn....
