It's still just a Chevrolet.....

I've been restoring, and modifying, both stock and hot rodded Chevrolets for going on 30 years. I really can rebuild a small block with my eyes closed. When I did my first Corvair engine I began kind of wary at first, new to the air cooled world. That lasted about 5 minutes as I began to disassemble...

Re: Just curious....

To answer your question....yes, you can. Anyone that says you can't is wrong. Can you install a V-8 in a Corvair? Yes. Can you install an entire Honda chassis including A/C engine, driveline, interior, etc in a '66 Corvair convertible? Yes you can....I saw the results. Turning a carbed Corvair motor...

Re: Fender corner replacement...Help!

In all my years (30 plus) of restoring cars I've developed the attitude that unless I am looking at a concourse restoration any repair that achieves the final goal that is not seen works just as well as the way the factory did it. It's not hard to fabricate metal that will do the job. Don't be afrai...

Re: Clarification on Dual Exhaust

In my area I have a muffler shop that specializes in custom fabricated exhaust system. The finished product that comes out of that shop are nothing short of works of art. The bonus is that the cost of those works of art is quite reasonable. If you can find a similar shop in your area use them. Not e...

Re: Hard to start, Pedal all the way to floor to keep idle

Being a big fan of the KISS principle (Keep It Simple Stupid) I always begin with the most simple obvious solutions and progressively move up the ladder of difficulty until I reach the answer. As long as it is running you have fulfilled the 3 requirements of the internal combustion engine...that bei...

Re: New AutoTrader article about Corvairs featuring my 63 Monza

In reading the Auto Trader article I was not surprised to read the author fell prey to many stereotypical ideas surrounding the Corvair "legend".

Re: Seat Belts in 1965 Monza

I'm almost 70 years old. I got my driver's license in 1965 when I was 16. Until 1972 I never owned a car that was required to have seat belts. I raised two kids before car seats were mandatory. Needless to say I'm old school. If it's not required for the year car I'm driving I'm damned sure not goin...

Re: OPG has a Corvair catalog coming soon

I for one applaud the entry of another supplier for Corvair parts. A little competition helps the consumer in so many ways. Mostly in money savings. As pointed out Chevrolet used many of the same parts across multiple lines and I always compare prices at numerous Chevy suppliers if the part is avail...

Re: Brake Question

The amount of pressure required to stop any car is commensurate with how fast your are going and how quickly you have to stop. Having played with most Chevy models from the 60's I can tell you the larger the car the better they stop with less pedal pressure than a Corvair. I don't worry too much abo...

Update on my transmission shifting problems....

*Update because I'm too lazy to search for original post* After transmission rebuild by a very reputable transmission specialist in my area, I adjusted the linkage to my PG as outlined in the service manual. Or so I thought. I could not get the transmission to shift from low to drive properly. It on...

Re: Hagerty: Will the corvair kill you?

I've always said it's not the car or how it's built that will hurt you....the problem has always been the loose nut behind the steering wheel. This article just reinforced that belief. In the article the author referred to a "driver's unfamiliarity with cars that oversteer". A reference wa...

Re: Corvair Help Map - Volunteers Needed

I am not a repair shop. I won't do any heavy mechanical work but I can assist if anyone happens to break down in my area. I will perform roadside assistance depending on distance and I feel that my assistance will be successful. Knowing that if you do break down it's nice to have a friendly car guy ...

Made a believer...

I have a long time friend that has always waxed eloquent about the classic American muscle car. He's owned more Chevelles in his lifetime than most people have pairs of underwear. Or so it seems. I too have an affinity for performance and most of my restorations have been on Novas and Chevelles. How...

Re: PG frustration....

Thanks for all the responses. Part of the issue was my misunderstanding the service manual in regards to throttle linkage adjustments. I finally figured it out when I had an epiphany at 4AM on one of those sleepless nights when something bothers you. The car is alive and well and shifts like a brand...

Re: PLEASE Support our Vendors who make reproduction items

I will ALWAYS buy from the cheapest vendor for my parts. If Clark's has the part I need and no one else has it of course I will buy from them. However GM shared many of their parts across its lines. Since I have spent a great many of my 68 years restoring GM cars I know who supplies what and who is ...

Thanks for the help. Turned out all it needed was a manual valve adjustment. Everything is fine now.
