Re: 69 140 Coupe
Yep! I think I finally learned how to drive a Corvair a little today.

Re: Painting Engine tins
I use the same duplicolor stuff as the guys above with good luck. None of it has flaked off or been damaged by oil or heat. It cleans up easily. I've seen some paint the tins an off white or light gray too and I think that looks great. Really makes the engine compartment a brighter place to work. I ...

Re: Road Racing a Modified Corvair
Thanks for the thorough response, Al. HPDE is certainly something I need to do. I feel like that's a good and mostly-safe way to start wheel-to-wheel racing. I'd like to go beyond that though. Not as far as SCCA though. I have a bad habit of building (autocross) cars that don't class well. I like dr...

Re: 69 140 Coupe
Oops. Shoes. The brakes are all stock. Good idea checking on the backing plate. People don't usually check that and I've had a couple backing plates mess up brakes on another car. The old Mazda Rx2 had really flexy backing plates out back. Made the fronts lock all the time. Sent from my SM-G900V usi...

Re: 69 140 Coupe
Started working on the brakes. I first adjusted both wheel bearings. The right one was a bit loose. The left was fine. Both appeared to have been packed recently so I didn't repack them. No change. Tightening up the right wheel bearing seems to have made no difference in front lockup. I feel like ri...

Re: Road Racing a Modified Corvair
Turns out a number of people have had success with cylinder head misting.

Re: 69 140 Coupe
Dash lights work! After hours of tracing dash wiring, I finally checked the headlight. It's a little flaky. Wiggled the knob and most of the lights flickered on. Duh... I just need a couple bulbs and I'm good to go. On another note, the next SCCA autocross takes place on the same day as my company's...

Re: App issues
The trend g section still works but that's just like a big stack of threads... like Corvair Center... lame!
Kidding, I love their forum. No app though.

Yep, same here. The search works in some tabs. I've been updating info on my car by searching for my threads.

Re: 69 140 Coupe
The app is acting weird. I can't see threads unless I go to the website or do a search. Anyway, yesterday's autocross went well enough. Lots of disappointing times. Lots of hilarious sliding around. This may be the most fun autocross car I've ever driven. My front brakes like to lock up inconsistent...

Re: Carb issues
In my experience, a bad accelerator pump will cause the carb to cough and backfire when you try to start giving it more throttle. Is that what's happening? Your description made it sound like it was acting up at idle.

Re: 69 140 Coupe
The set screw on my Holley carb adapter linkage keeps loosening, causing me to get stuck in traffic. Fun!
