Re: 65 Corvair Convertible Restoration
Your note that 90 hours have been spent so far is understandable. In this area, amounts around $100 per hour are common. Hope you checked the customers ability to pay. I ran a shop for many years, once in a while, the customer could not pay. Selling a car thru the lein process is a real headache in ...

Re: play in the front end
The previous reply showing a picture of the steering box is in the right area. Inside the trunk area, strait in front of the driver on the floor of the trunk is a rubber plug. Remove the plug and you will find a lock nut with a flat blade screw head sticking up. This is the adjustment. Loosen the lo...

Re: Runs great for thirty minutes then crappy. Don't know wh
Two items mentioned in the other posts, the ignition coil and condenser are certainly possible, but are not likely. The ignition coil can be tested. Your local AutoZone has the test equipment and if you find the right employee, will test the coil for free. You can test the condenser with visual insp...

Re: Rochester carbs really getting under my skin...
An idea has come to mind, that one of the carburetors is a secondary carb, without an accelerator pump and idle mixture screw.
Do both carbs have working accelerator pumps?

Re: Couple of problems - overheating and headlights in my 19
I agree with previous reply, that the likely problem is low oil pressure at idle. Possible causes include lots of wear in bearings or oil pump, gas contaminated oil (thin oil) or even a faulty oil pressure switch. Pull out the switch, install a direct reading oil pressure gauge. Check actual test pr...

Re: How many gaskets on an oil pan?
The engine oil pan uses only one gasket. The cork gasket is not the best type as it will crush and will allow seepage. There are other types available, not cork. Many auto parts stores carry the "Permagasket", I believe is Felpro. Very good gaskets Before installing the gasket, make sure t...

Re: New Kansas Monza owner
Glad to see there are others that love to work on these special cars. A tool that works really good for pulling and installing engines is a flat top table on wheels mounted on a foot operated jack. The table will move up to about 36 inches, and the with a push of a lever, will then come down. With t...
