Re: disc brake conversion
Thanks for the info! I'll probably go with the S-10 setup. The only other question I have is how do you use the speedometer cable with this setup? Thanks, Reed

disc brake conversion
I've been reading a lot on this site about converting corvairs to disc brakes and I have a simple question: Since my Monza uses Chevelle brakes for stopping, is it possible to use disc brakes from another GM product? Since interchangability has always been a big plus for any GM, I was wondering if t...

Re: Help with decoding my '66 Monza
Thanks for the info about the Monza! The car is original and the tag verifies that. The car is pictured in my ID and I hope to have it on the road this summer. I think the car is Lemonwood Yellow, the only thing in the right corner is an E and next to where it says paint is C-2. I am so glad I joine...

Help with decoding my '66 Monza
Could I please get some help decoding the body tag on my '66 Monza ragtop? I couldn't take a picture since the building it is in is unpowered and the flash washes out the picture. The tag reads as follows: O2D E ST 66-10567 WRN 5936 BODY TR 758 C-2 PAINT WD2EM4F

Re: Is my Corvair rare?
When I locate my camera, I'll take pictures of the mirror as well. The more I think about it, I don't really need it and since I have to mount a mirror on the passenger door, I think the car would look better with a matched set. The one on the car now is different in design from a fixed set. It's th...

Re: Is my Corvair rare?
Thanks for the info on the car, I thought the ad was a bit misleading. From what you described, the rear panel I saw was from a '65 not a '66 which again is misleading. If I can find my digital camera, I'll uncover the car and take a picture of the ID tag you described. By the way, the mirror is VGC...

Is my Corvair rare?
I own a 1966 Corvair Monza with a 110 hp/Powerglide . It is a convertible with a power top and air conditioning. It also has a remote driver control mirror. I haven't gone completely throughthe car to check for any other options yet, so there might be more. The only reason I am asking this is becaus...

convertible top replacement
Is it very difficult to replace the top on my '66 monza? Now that the warmer weather is around the corner, I'm itching to get my 'vair up and going but the top (being original) is worn out and the back window is more or less gone. I've priced out a few vendors, but I am not sure which one to go with...

Re: two tone paint job
Thanks for the input on this. My son thought it would be cool since my '66 Monza is a ragtop with a black top and interior. I'll still mull over the idea for a while. I've got a gallon or so of black paint left over from a previous project that I was wanting to use on something, but I am not sure if...

two tone paint job
I'm tossing around the idea of repainting my '66 with a two tone motif with a black hood and decklid and either the original cream or silver for the sides. Any pics out there with this setup? My son came up with this idea and it might not look half bad. My paint job on the car is original and defini...

Re: 15 inch wheels
Still wrestling with the problem because of budget issues, but I found something out that may help other members: Using the conversion chart I found that 195/70-14's are almost an exact match for a 185/80-13. Wallmart has many to choose from in this size and the prices are very reasonable. This may ...

15 inch wheels
With the help of other members, it was found that 15 inch tires (205/60-15) are about the same diameter as a stock 13 inch. Being a working stiff, buying aftermarket wheels is out of the question, since I can't afford them. My question is do wheels from GM products from the '80's, like Fiero's, Cent...

I don't know where you live in relation to Minnesota, but if you are reasonably close go to Craigslist and check out the Minneapolis section. In Isanti there is a person who repairs Corvairs and has a '61 rampside for sale for a lot less.

Re: changing tire sizes
Thank you for the information you posted, it is an immense help. I was thinking of using some chevy rally wheels on it and with your data it makes it a reality. Thanks again and hopefully I'll be on the road in the spring............

Re: changing tire sizes
Thanks for the reply, 10 miles isn't that hard to remember. Hopefully I'll have it on the road by summer. The car is basically a "barn find" with less than 46,000 miles in it. It is all original, but need a new top and paint for the most part.
