I've cut the panel around the master cylinder out of a rust free donar and graffed it in 60-61's before.

Re: Best way to bleed my brakes?
60 vair, Do you have to have the pedal depressed slightly (like block it with a stick against the front of the seat) for fluid to flow? Sounds like a good way to get all the air out, but might want to disconnect the battery if you block the pedal.

Re: Headlights not working.
Bad dimmer switch on the floor. Vairy common problem with corrosion. Both high and low beams run through it. Fuel guage acting up is no doubt a bad ground on the dash panel. Again vairy common with it's age and design. Clean the ground straps where it mounts on the lower rear or add new ones.

Re: Howling sound
If the bearing gets bad enough it will allow the fan to wobble enough to hit the underneath side of the top shroud and break the fins off the magnesium fan. More broken parts = more money. Change it now and be done. If its making noise, it's beyond being greased. Setting the new bearing into the top...

Re: Camber compensator bush question
It's not stock. If it was below the leaf spring by the castle nut it was used added to raise the rear of the car. Most likely to compensate for weak rear coil springs, which is very common, if rear tires tip in at the top, or wide rear tires are added.

Re: Random lever under dash below radio???
Yes. Three vents total for 64-65. Never looked myself but others have said the inner front panel was changed so it wouldn't be a bolt in swap into the earlier models. How sad.

Opens up a 64-65 only vent behind the center grill up front. A ton of air going down the road. Loved mine.

That is a funky looking crankcase vent system. I would like to see a close up of what the blue connecters are holding before I voice my opinion.

Heater blower motor is also alot easier to get to with the drivetrain out.

Re: Basic drum brake issue
One possible cause would be if the rear piston is froze up in the wheel cylinder. Open the bleeder screw and try to push in on the rod between the shoe and the cylinder. If it doesn't move, time for a rebuild.

Re: Difficulty of EM Windshield Install?
Two ways. If the lock was just popped out and didn't damage the latch inside, look in the hole and you'll see a slotted hole in the latch. You use a medium size standard screwdriver to rotate the slot clockwise till the decklid pops up onto the safety. Then press down slightly on the lid and turn th...

Re: fel-pro gasket set
I would only use the newer Viton material O-rings supplied by one of the many Corvair vendors. I doubt if this is what came in your gasket set, they should be brown/tan colored.

Re: Ball joint wobbly in spindle - front
Mine steers and goes down the road great. No slop or wandering. It just when I had it jacked up to check wheel bearing clearance and brake drag I noticed a little movement in the lower joints. It's the acual ball in the socket, not the tapered stud in the spindle or the assy in the lower control arm.

Re: Ball joint wobbly in spindle - front
Not to hi-jack this thread but with the car supported on jack stands and the suspension hanging free should there be any sloop in the lower ball joint itself? Springs have been cut one coil if that matters.

Re: Average running temp for a Non-Turbo Corsa
Hi guys. I'm new here but not to Corvairs. Can't speak for how acurate the gauges are in my wagon but I run about 270 head temp. and 230 oil temp. at sustained highway speed. Head is taken from under the stock head temp snap switch. Oil is from the rear of the block in the sump. Both seem cool compa...
