Re: Gauge Cluster Upgrade
Must I also change the rear harness and front harness in the car to make this gauge cluster upgrade? Instead of changing the wiring harnesses, you can just add the additional required wires. You can purchase the correct wire connectors from Clark's to fit into the molded plugs and make it look fact...

"Seems the 110 HP motors have 1-5/8 Inch Tubing & Flange Gaskets. No-one makes that size tubing anymore" That size is available from Columbia River Mandrel Bending in both stainless steel and mild steel. Here is a link to the mild steel bends: http://www.mandrelbends.com/mandrel-bends/...

Re: Carburetors for a 63 turbo
Here's another write up: http://blacksheepsquad.blogspot.com/2012/01/edis-conversion.html One thing about changing the values in the timing table: It's pretty easy to screw things up. :sad5: You can generate a base map as a starting point, I used this one: http://www.useasydocs.com/theory/spktable.h...

Re: Engine rebuild
When they increased the engines from 145 to 164 cubic inch displacement for 1964 they made the crank throws longer, bored the cylinders larger..... IIRC, the only cylinder bore increase occured when they went from the 1960 140 cubic inch engine to the 1961 145 cubic inch engine. The bore was increa...

Re: 5-Speed conversion?
If you're just looking for lower revs at highway speeds, you could go to a 3:08 to 1 diff ratio. That would be a lot easier than trying to adapt a five-speed transmission to your Corvair. The above is what I did on my 65 Monza. I used a 62-63 4 speed for the lower first gear, and with a 3.08 diff i...

Re: Cam timing - what to trust ?
Since the Corvair engine turns reverse vs most GM engines you'll need a degree wheel marked both CW and CCW. Here's a link to a Corvair degree wheel that goes on your harmonic damper or crank pulley: http://www.n56ml.com/corvair/degree_wheel.pdf And some instructions for using that wheel: http://ww...

Agree with Scott V, if they were properly prepared just install them and use them. Measure them and if they were done right you don't have any prep to do.

The "little wedges" are called "valve keepers" or "valve locks". The "spring cap" is called the "valve spring retainer" or just "retainer". The keepers grip the valve with a collet type grip provided by the taper between the keeper and reta...

Time Sert makes a "BIG SERT" spark plug insert that will work in a .660 hole. You can try to find a machine shop that has this tool, it will be cheaper than having it welded and rethreaded. OR You can rent the BIG Sert tool from aircooled.net Details are at https://vwparts.aircooled.net/Bi...

Little bit more each night. "8409" visible on the crank, hoping that's one of the desirable ones. Yes, it is the number for the long stroke 64-69 crankshaft, it is correct for your 64 and gives you 164 cubic inches instead of 145. It also means stronger connecting rods. Your head number i...

Re: Racing battery
No experience with that one, but for awhile I had an Odyssey PC680 in my autox car. It has slightly less capacity than the Braille B2015 but never had an issue starting the car. Why did I get rid of it? I went to a trunk mounted battery and wanted the weight gain (30+ pounds) of a full size battery ...
