Re: New member - 1962 Corvair95 Rampside!

Hello Everyone! Sorry for the late feedback - I have family over and it's quite intense, to say the least and we're about to go on a road trip.. I managed to push it into the garage and only could snap a few pictures without being really focused or aiming properly. I'll post them anyway, so that you...

Re: New member - 1962 Corvair95 Rampside!

Since the clutch seems to be working I would be looking for a stripped axle yoke. The way to check for this is with the engine running and in gear look underneath and see if one of the axle yokes, coming out of the diff is spinning. The splines on the inside of the yoke can strip out so it will jus...

Re: New member - 1962 Corvair95 Rampside!

Let me tell you a totally related story: Along time ago in a galaxy far away, I had a '63 Corvan 95 Factory camper which I further modified by adding an extended-height roof. It had a 4-carb 140hp engine and a 4-speed transmission. I built a beautiful mahogany interior and it was my little ground-b...

Re: New member - 1962 Corvair95 Rampside!

If anything more that linkage, yes. We'll get to it, but it's best to drop the whole powertrain (engine / transaxle). On cars you can kind of cheat and just drop the engine, but on FCs (pickups and vans - Forward Control) is is very difficult to just drop the engine. Dennis (have my fingers crossed...

Re: New member - 1962 Corvair95 Rampside!

Okay, now we have some direction. Does shifter have any "feel'' to it when shifting gears (engine off and sitting still). Feel would be like you can feel when it goes into the "H'' pattern. If it feels loose and sloppy, could be shifter pin to transmission broke or fell out (buy lottery t...

Re: New member - 1962 Corvair95 Rampside!

Before you do ANYTHING, please be more descriptive about "clutch gave up on a hill". Did it start slipping? Start to flare (engine revs increase), suddenly just let go? Now what about your experience working on cars or particularly clutches? We'll get you through it. Nice truck. Dennis Hi...

Re: New member - 1962 Corvair95 Rampside!

Welcome to the Rampside world! Before you pull the power-pack, check the clutch cable. When the cable housing starts to collapse, there's not enough stroke to release the clutch. A short term fix is to overtighten the clutch cable to get partial use of the clutch. The downside to this "fix&quo...

The more I think of it, the more I can't believe my luck: Dave, if you happen to read this post, I want to thank you again for your trust in me and for selling me your beloved car - as promised, I will take good care of it.

Re: New member - 1962 Corvair95 Rampside!

That is such a cool ride! I have never even seen one up where I live, glad you were able to snag it. I am new here too, but it looks like great info and people on here. Enjoy! Isn't it!? I shamefully admit I didn't know about it, until I saw it - fell in love instantly. Welcome to you too, OldnSlow!

Re: New member - 1962 Corvair95 Rampside!

Someone else was asking about it but you beat them to it. Sounds like you talked them down from the asking price. What happened with the clutch? Does it not engage like the friction material went bad or does it not disengage like there's trouble with the cable? Rampsides are pretty nifty, I had one...

New member - 1962 Corvair95 Rampside!

Hello Everyone! This is Bartimer - I just acquired today a 1962 Corvair Rampside! Currently sitting in Santa Rosa CA, I plan to fix what I can and seek for help on the parts I'm not comfortable with. The car has ~30K+ miles on the odometer and I found it for sales on the side of the road: I passed b...
