Re: CORSA BOD playing games on the CCF?

Yes I am aware it's for RFK, JR. I only made the JFK and '63 reference to try and lighten things up.

Re: New member first Corvair

Nice car, I like the blue and white. It might not need pushrod tube o-rings if someone already did them. You can look in through the door in the back and see if there's oil in the lower shrouds or on the exhaust manifold clamps. Sometimes if you just tighten the oil pan bolts a little it may help. N...

Re: CORSA BOD playing games on the CCF?

I'm not by any stretch a Kennedy supporter. The Kennedy sign on a car from the JFK era could be construed as good humor. I'm glad I don't have to decide. It could be akin to racing in SCCA where no one cares about the Corvair unless you win. I can't imagine a CORSA convention bid that did not have g...

Re: Newbie with a rampside

I'm not sure there are many body panels available easily. What panels do you think it may need? You might need to make something. Is it a Powerglide transmission or Manual? Does the engine turn with a 3/4" wrench on the crankshaft pulley? Is it a truck engine with the oil filler and dipstick ac...

Re: Bench Wrenching

I like when I offer advice to the best of my knowledge and someone corrects my misconception or adds something I don't know. I'm largely self taught through trial and error but try to learn all I can. Mostly why I'm here.

Re: A Word of Thanks

Your name is familiar from over there. It looks like a nice performance Corvair and you're taking good care of it. It's good to see it's coming together.

I took the link to go look on Facebook and reaffirmed that I'm glad I don't belong to Facebook.

Re: CORSA BOD playing games on the CCF?

I like to think I'm not a conspiracy buff. I asked over there for an explanation and did not receive a satisfactory reply. At least there were a few replies so it was not a total rebuff but it's along the lines of "why would someone do that?" and "it's not worth my time". This ma...

Re: Compatibility

I've never heard the LM flywheel has more of a propensity to hit EM bell housing lower bolts if the two are used together. I will probably never use a LM crankshaft and flywheel with a EM bell housing again because I'm flush with LM Manual bell housings now. If it's true it's a good thing to know. I...

Re: Loose Deep Valve Seats

If I remember right it is 356 aluminum alloy.
Interesting point that sunken head gaskets are a sign of aluminum that has gone soft but if I threw away all the heads I have with that condition I wouldn't have many left.

Re: EM - Axle rubbing on A-Arm opening

I will say again that 1 5/16" toe-out sounds like a crazy number and having to move the powertrain back 1" sounds like a crazy number. I've just never encountered something that excessive. Something has to be terribly wrong. FC front mounting brackets are about 4 " longer. EM and LMs ...

Re: Compatibility

Someone above said the LM crankshaft is longer but the seal surface area is shorter. If you put a EM Manual bell housing on a LM crankshaft it's right out at the end of the crankshaft. I've used a shim behind the seal in a EM bell housing to move the seal further on to the crankshaft. I think last t...

Re: EM - Axle rubbing on A-Arm opening

I'm sorry but my head is swimming. Good information but I can't take it all in at the moment. That much shim is ridulous. I appreciate your measuring and approach but an inch of toe-out would have to be visible. Moving the differential ahead gives toe-out, back gives toe-in. Regarding rear rubber mo...

Re: Fuel Tank Sender Lock Ring Tool

The beauty of the tool is getting all 3 or 4 tabs started at the same time when installing. With a screwdriver holding the sender and o-ring and retainer in one hand while holding the screwdriver with the other hand and using a hammer with your third hand is a bit much. SERENITY NOW! If I had to go ...

Re: Loose Deep Valve Seats

I had heads heat treated for my race car and it was a very expensive endeavor. As explained to me by the Machine Shop I was using at the time, the aluminum moves around somewhat during the process and "everything" needs to be remachined. I believe it is absolutely the way to go because the...
