Re: New Member Saying Hi

I had a call from a guy in my state who bought a car from COPART. Lots of extra fees, the Title is slow in coming and when he washed it half the resale red paint came off.

Re: Brake Shoes

I think cheaper shoes are better for us because we want a soft compound and more expensive shoes are often hard for longer wearing.

Cylinder Fixture

I have a little wood stand for holding a crankcase half that works pretty good. I have a little wooden stand for holding a cylinder head upside down that works pretty good. Maybe less than ideal for turbo heads because it has holes for the carburetor studs but I get by. I have a little wooden stand ...

Re: FOUND!! WTB: One good used 1962-63 Turbo Head

I didn't pay particular attention to whether all 8 of my 287s had the drain hole drilled out. I know some had the tube, I didn't notice if any were not drilled or drilled and plugged. I put most of them back on the shelf. I assume your reason for asking is the 287 was sometimes considered a left sid...

Re: FOUND!! WTB: One good used 1962-63 Turbo Head

The extensive chart in the CORSA Tech Guide may help one figure out any differences. These days one might be fortunate to find one in good condition regardless of the number. A lot of them seem to have loose fit of the valve in the guide. I have eight 62-63 turbo heads from various places and they'r...

Re: First start in 32 years.

I've been using NGK BR6HS (3922) in most engines. The red Pertronix 2 doesn't work so well in PG engines sometimes. You need to pay attention to Ohms with the resistor wire and coil with Pertronix. I don't know if I'd put much stock in spark plug color from before, just running it with the chokes no...

Re: We TRIED to Help CORSA Fix the Serious Issues with The Corvair Center Forum – Read Our Letter and Their Response HER

Someone somewhere said the CORSA BOD needs more than few new faces to overcome the "that's how we've always done it" state of mind. I've done what I can with my vote in Central Division and I'm quite interested in how this is all going to pan out. If I would have donated money to help reva...

Re: Engine Stand, easy question to answer

I use a normal engine stand bolted to the bell housing.
I've got a wood thing for the crankcase but it looks different than the one above.
I've got another wood thing for working on heads.

Re: Leaky Leaky

I don't know if it's leaking from the differential side seals or not. If so, Early differentials can suffer from a malady I like to call yoke slop where the radial play of the yoke inside the differential is excessive to the point where the side seal can't contain the oil. With the car jacked up you...

You have to commend a Mustang guy for wanting to find a good home for these Corvairs and parts. I hope someone in the area takes him up on it.

Re: New Corvair Owner - Hello!

I would get it running out of a gas can and only introduce the gas tank and chassis line after verification. The gas tank sender is easy enough to get out for a look and feel inside. I have the luxury of a pair of test carburetors. They "always" need a little cleaning inside and new accele...

Re: New member, New owner

'60-61 have a different master cylinder under the dash instead of in the trunk, sort of a pain to remove. Last one I dealt with was difficult to get started bleeding so I used a pressure bleeder on a screw cap doohickey I made. A Mity-Vac didn't seem to want to do it. Once I got things going it bled...

Re: 1962 727 Resurrection

A lower stud can come out with the rocker stud but it's usually no big deal as long as there's no aluminum on the threads. I put them back in with red Loctite to the proper depth, some you can see with the top cover off. I use a ball bearing in a rocker stud to put them back in which helps it to rel...

Re: 1962 727 Resurrection

There's a lot of young people interested in Corvairs these days, many of them have inherited a car. The family bond stories are especially heartwarming. A lot of folks seem to be content with bad advice and social distancing on Facebook. We've got a fair amount of young folks in Corvair Minnesota cl...
