Re: Turbo Corvair Dies Under Load
Well, at long last there is closure. I had the pertonix 1 ignitor from over 20 years ago on the car. I originally found the car in a barn in 2018 and got it running in 45 minutes once it was in my garage. It had been sitting in the barn for around 14 years. Didn't think anything of the pertonix ...

Suggestions for replacing turbo fuel filter?
Hello everyone, Just got my 1961 Sypder Clone going and drove it around for the first time in almost 3 years. Everything is alright but I found a small leak at the seam of the fuel filter so I want to replace it. Is it best to replace the filter with part C8 from Clarks or are there better options ...

Re: Battery Negative Terminal
The battery acts as a "filter" to smooth out the varying electrical amplitudes of the alternator. Also the alternator has a sense wire that should be close to the battery "+" terminal. So if the battery "disappears" from the electrical circuit by removing either battery cable, then the alternator ...

Re: Battery Negative Terminal
While there might be some truth to this (not sure), it probably isn't a good idea to disconnect the battery from a running vehicle. Does your have an alternator conversion? Or original generator? Dennis It is the original generator. I didn’t really want to do it but someone had mentioned that the p ...

Battery Negative Terminal
I've been told if you unplug the negative terminal on the battery that this is a quick way to check if your alternator is going bad on more modern vehicles. I was wondering if this is also true for the Corvair? I unplugged the negative terminal momentarily and the car immediately died.

Re: Turbo Corvair Dies Under Load
» Mon Apr 17, 2023 5:53 pm So I was working on getting my Spyder engine started. I have a 1961 Monza 900 with all the Spyder trim, dash, engine, etc. I can get the car started and it seems to run well when I rev it in neutral. When I put it in first gear and try to move, the car seems to have no ...

Re: Turbo Corvair Dies Under Load
Good questions. From the engine picture, the distributor looks a little too far advanced, but this could also be the position it was installed in. Also, the ballast resistor on the coil makes me suspicious of the ignition. Timing light and checking timing would be a good starting point. What color ...

Re: Turbo Corvair Dies Under Load
Sharp car! 4-speed, right? Which ignition system, stock points or electronic? I have seen a lot of videos lately where a bad condenser was to blame. Do you have the right turbo distributor with pressure retard? Timing & dwell set properly? Clean plugs, good fuel flow, carb rebuilt? Car's backstory ...
