Re: Brake Shoes
Thanks Ken. Making a hole a little bigger is no problem. Cut the material for the front shoe??? How much shorter should it be from the rear shoe? When I was a young man in the late 70s and early 80s I worked in a brake shop so I understand what your saying. Most front shoes had shorter material. But...

Re: New Member, New Corvair Owner
Curious, Are you able to turn the key in the truck lock? Or will it not turn at all as if its the wrong key? As others have stated, sometimes if it turns you need to push the hood down a bit after it pops up a little then turn key a little more. Like a safety catch is built in. But if it wont turn a...

Re: Coil and Resistance wire question
My coil is a Flame Thrower 3.0 ohm.
I tried to look it up to see if it was oil or epoxy filled and wasnt able to definitely say one way or the other.

We are higher than the Mile High City of Denver but you are right, Not as many people, thank God. But we are catching up. Thanks to Steve and You Bob for correcting this. I was starting to wonder if I got away with something.

Re: Rust removal project
Looks like a big job. I cant help you but be careful with that angled grinder. Blood don't help remove rust. :)

Re: Coil and Resistance wire question
Joel, I agree with your train of thought. I cant argue that point as I'm far from an electrical engineer. OK Brad. Just for you, plus its my Saturday night and I'm sitting here having a cold one. The Fan was replaced. I have no clue if the style had been changed or was the same. Dad said the bearing...

Re: Coil and Resistance wire question
Starting from the top... Thanks Tom for helping me understand what the schematics were actually saying. Sometimes I get messed up on direction. And your colored diagram helped. Bob, Your saying its a weak way about it because of the less voltage (more resistance than factory) being given to the poin...

Re: Coil and Resistance wire question
I'm looking at 63 schematics from this site. I'm seeing the yellow wire is connected to the Resistance wire at a connector. If the yellow wire is only powered during starting then I think what I was misunderstanding is the power supplied to the resistance wire is actually coming from the ignition an...

Re: Newbie in VT
Welcome to the group. Emissions testing? Here in CO my car (63) was exempt. Are you sure you have to deal with that on a EM Corvair? I was told high altitude areas in Colorado require emissions testing for ALL cars. I recall Steve Goodman saying he had to make Corvairs pass emissions testing. That ...

Coil and Resistance wire question
Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse here. The wiring on my 63 Vert is a mess. Too many people in the past screwing with it. Cutting this and bypassing that. I will be replacing the Harnesses from bumper to bumper this coming winter but for now I just want to understand what has been done. At the momen...
