Re: Info wanted: 1965 frunk lid CORVAIR placement

FRUNK - These kids and there new fangled words. :rolling: Then again who came up with TRUNK? Oh wait, old cars only had a rack on the back to hold your TRUNK when you traveled. At least we don't call it a BOOT (you know who you are across the pond) Would a front BOOT be a FOOT ---- Oh stop me...

Re: Loose Deep Valve Seats

Three valid points made --- The seats have to be installed correctly. ANY seat can come loose if the head is overheated. The head aluminum alloy was O.K. for the era, but if you look up the specs it isn't as "robust" as today's alloys. Heat cycles (and anything over about 450F is going to ...

Re: Alt. Fan and pulley needed

The DELCO alternator fan design PULLS air into the back of the alternator and expels it at the fan/pulley. Because the Corvair alternator turns reverse rotation compared to other GM car alternators it has a unique fan/pulley! So how is your alternator without the correct fan keeping cool? Just lucky...

You won't be the first one to do that!! One reason I always test a rebuilt engine BEFORE I install it in the vehicle.

Re: CCLARK'S SMALL CHROME AIR CLEANERS

So to take it back to the original question "I'm thinking about..." I have to ask: Is your OEM air filter system so bad? Think about it: You're taking ONE big air filter, and replacing it with 4 SMALLER air filters that while it looks cool, will be less efficient (not to mention the whole...

Re: Upper Control arm bushing nut torque

O.K. I found a new Clark's c2130 (upper "A" arm bushing bolt) and it is 5/16" (1/2" head bolt) UNF (24 per inch) and is a Grade 8 bolt. I have not found the GM bolt number or spec. Unless GM used a Grade 9 bolt (unlikely). The 65 shop manual line 12. spec. of 35-40 ft. lbs. (same...

Re: Oil Pressure Issue at startup

I'll add that at one time many said you should "stretch" the oil pressure regulator spring on an old engine since they loose tension. THAT IS NOT CORRECT! I 100% agree that it is not correct to stretch that spring but that's due to a reason you don't mention. Stretching that spring does a...

Re: Upper Control arm bushing nut torque

Hmm, 1/2" heads are on 5/16" bolts typically (they make different head sizes, but unusual for these normal style bolts). So I would go with "yep, that seems tight" and not all the way to 35 ft-lbs. If there are 6 lines on the bolt head, then that is grade 8, so 25 ft-lbs dry. If...

Re: Oil Pressure Issue at startup

I've taken apart engines and seen the same thing Jim mentioned - the oil pressure regulator piston was "sticking" due to grimy sludge packed in the piston hole the spring sits in. A basic cleaning and the piston moved freely. I'll add that at one time many said you should "stretch&quo...

Re: Oil Pressure Issue at startup

When my 66 Vair sits awhile I notice the oil light does not go out until just after the engine starts. To clarify my engine usually starts quickly. Just me --- others can comment on what they observe. While the starter is engaged the oil pressure warning light is dimmer due to the voltage drop when ...

Re: CORSA BOD playing games on the CCF?

I'm a member of the CORSA board of directors. I can't believe anybody on the CORSA board would be inclined to falsify the number of hits on any post. What would that accomplish? Al It is well known the new forum has had some "bugs". Also the "hits" are views requested, NOT the n...

Re: Thermistor or Gauge Malfunction?

They mystery continues... Today, I took off the left lower shroud to get a look in there and see the condition of the thermister wire. Everything looked OK and no sign of grounding or fraying. I took the right lower shroud off just to see up in there. While the shrouds were off, I did a road test o...

Re: Thermistor or Gauge Malfunction?

BTW - the original wire that attached to the thermistor had a high temperature woven cloth covering. Now Clark's sells one with a high temperature plastic insulation.

The standard plastic insulation used on automotive wiring will not stand up to the heat near the thermistor.

Re: Thermistor or Gauge Malfunction?

I didn't notice anybody mentioning the OVERTEMP warning light sensor is on the passenger side head, and the thermistor for the gauge is on the drivers side head and it sits right above the exhaust manifold so careful routing of the high temperature sending wire is required. It is possible for just o...

Re: Shifter / 4 speed behavior

Gary --- The quick shifter kit Seth mentioned has a spacer about an inch high the original shifter base sits on. Do you have that? For decades it has been said the LM Corsa came with a "quick" shifter, but in fact a few folks proved it is the same as the basic 4 speed shifter, but with a c...
