Re: A question about cylindar head temperature
Just my thoughts for what they are worth (a buddy says free advice is worth what it costs - :rolling: ). I have always recommended the 110HP engine to folks who don't have a lot of mechanical ability, or don't like to "tinker" with an old car. It performs as well as the 140HP or Turbo belo...

Re: Candidates for CORSA Director
Once a month there is an informal get together at the mall for ANYONE interested in Corvairs. One fellow brought up the topic of the CORSA elections and I was surprised to learn ONLY ONE person belonged to CORSA and HALF the folks didn't even belong to a local club!!!! As one fellow put it "I'm...

Re: 1965 Corsa Coupe
After all these decades the carburetor screws are usually in sad shape. Clark's sells a kit containing new carburetor screws.

Re: When Valves Don't Measure Up!
That was interesting, BUT I've always wondered about valve seat height variation affecting the height of the valve stem to head spring seat, and of course spring height. So are you saying the valve seat to valve stem retainer groove varies among the valves, or are you saying depth of the valve seat...

Re: '62 Monza convertible "Ralphie"
I've been done this road a few times. Now I just put in a new gas tank when I get an old car. In the long run it pays off - just me.
Over the years a few folks have posted that eventually the gas tank liner material breaks down and plugs up the system. Just what I have read.
Good luck.

Re: Listing to one side
Yes camber will affect ride height, especially an amount like 1/4". Jim Brandberg Isanti, MN CorvairRepair.com Agreed - even a soft tire can cause a 1/4" difference. If the rear wheel camber is way off, it could be an adjustment, but it MIGHT be the rubber bushings in the lower camber rod...

Re: A question about cylindar head temperature
Thanks for the info No, when I start my car the temp gauge is at 200. I usually don’t drive it till it budges just a tick and under normal driving it usually sits just got under 300. I’ve had it for one summer and just took it out of storage. Driving it yesterday in around 35 degree weather I saw i...

Re: A question about cylindar head temperature
I just took my 65 Corsa convertible out of storage here in Boston. It’s originally a 180 turbo car but now has the 110 The normal Cyl head gauge reading is around 300 but it’s still in the 30s/40’s here. So it’s the coldest weather I’ve ever run it in The gauge has budged, almost imperceptibly, I w...

Spiderman -- I have two A/C cars so that was a helpful tip.
One thing --- is the flocking durable? Just wondering if it rubs off onto items in the glove box.

When was the last time you saw an ash tray in a car?
A Corvair buddy who owed me a favor gave me an NOS ash tray light for an LM Corvair. It is a neat option.
I realized I can't remember the last time I saw an ashtray in a newer car. How times have changed.
The "cigarette lighter" is now a "power port".

Re: Airplanes with Corvair motors...
For years the experimental/homebuilt folks looked to building their own engines because small aircraft commercial aircraft engines are EXPENSIVE. ROTAX started out as a supplier of light/small aircraft engines for the hobbyist and now has moved into selling certified engines. Durable and cost effect...

Re: Telescoping Steering Wheel
Do you have any pictures of the one you finally found? Would be great to see one. I think my '65 sedan has a tele column also, but can't move it when I unlock the ring/knob in the center....It has been sitting for a long while and may need to be cleaned up internally. Seth posted a great video on g...

Re: Changing fuel guage float
If you can afford it buy the lock ring tool from Clark's. Amazing tool and it makes the job much easier. Great comments, but I'd check the electrical first as someone suggested. There is a wire that goes to the float from the gauge, BUT as mentioned the fuel gauge mechanism MUST be grounded via a w...

Re: Telescoping Steering Wheel
I may be incorrect --- but based on my old memory, the "telescoping" steering column was revised for the 67 models to meet the "energy absorbing" standards. If you look at the 67 model year shop manual you'll see the coupler was moved down to the steering box to allow and inside ...
