Just dropping a photo of the rebuilt horns.
Sealed with the 3/16” rivets and a top coat of black.

Re: John’s 65 sedan
:ty: Thanks guys! Tonight was a less glamorous, but equally rewarding job. Rebuilding the horns. Yep…rebuilding the horns. I posted the how-to in the mechanical section. I was able to get 2 horns working after cutting them open, repairing, and reassembling. Does it go without saying that I like a go...

Re: Horn Repair?
New post to an old thread. So I’m rebuilding the Phoenix, my ‘65 sedan, and I’m needing horns. Of my collection of decent horns to choose from, I had 2 sets. None worked. So if they’re junk, why not trying to get them to work? :dontknow: First, I cut off all of the rivets with a right angle ...

Congrats!
Explode? I would say internal detonation is better than external detonation for sure.
Nice looking engine!

Re: John’s 65 sedan
Yeah Rex. You’re right. Actually I’m heading to the Corvair Ranch Open House this weekend and think that I’ll take both rear wheel bearings and either exchange for rebuilds or have mine rebuilt. The one seal area looked like it might have been leaking at one time. And while I’m at it, I’m likely goi...

Re: First start in 32 years.
The only other things that I did to my engine prior to starting was a new set of points, plugs, and shake-down the fuel system. Of course I had to free up the throttle linkage and the butterflies, and set the timing. Attached is all I did for setting the timing. Very simple. I then took a long lengt...

Re: First start in 32 years.
A suggestion that I’ll offer is pulling the distributor and turning the oil pump prior to “starting”. My car sat on the woods for 25 years. I dumped the Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinders, and the engine was almost seized up. The MM oil worked just fine and after soaking overnight, it eventually fr...

Re: John’s 65 sedan
So I changed direction this weekend and started working on the rear suspension. I need to identify a few more parts to order before I place my next Clark’s order to make it more worthwhile. I removed the trailing arm assembly from the donor and proceeded to disassemble. I’m figuring the rear wheel b...

Re: County98's Learn as I Go Thread
I think you did a vairy nice job on the chrome insert. I’ve also seen some imperfections with some of the Clark’s parts.
Nice tip about the grommet sheet! Thanks

Re: Rust removal project
I ‘ve had a fair amount of experience with treating rust. Here’s my suggestion and photos to support. My first step approach, I’d take a right angle grinder with a coarse wire cup wheel and attack the surface. To remove Any heavy scale. Both KBS and POR15 make a “Metal Prep” that is a rust pre treat...

Re: John’s 65 sedan
Thanks Dennis. It feels good to be posting progress again, as it feels good to be making progress again! ::-): So last night was spent working on media blasting some pieces and painting. That HF media booth that I bought and the air compressor from an auction both have made a huge difference in help...

Re: John’s 65 sedan
Yep. The side mirrors are the bow tie mirrors from Clark’s. When I had the car painted, all of the original holes were filled with weld. Originally, my car didn’t have a side mirror on the passenger side. The donor doors I used both previously had mirrors; however, the driver’s side was mounted way ...

Re: John’s 65 sedan
Thanks guys! It’s been a challenging spring thus far for me to keep steady progress, and to build on that from my last post, I’ve been traveling for the last 3 weeks; however, this weekend I’ve been home and was able to make more good progress. During my travels, the paint in the trunk has fully dri...

Re: John’s 65 sedan
It’s been a month since my last post and progress has been slower than desired. Shopping for a new car for my wife, and helping my son with him also getting a car, taxes, some travel for work, the holiday, etc. Somewhere in between all of that, there has been progress. I’ve been trying to get the tr...

Re: John’s 65 sedan
Thanks Gary! It is coming back from the 💀. I’m loving the transformation! It’s been a few weeks since my last post, but progress continues. The passenger side glass is in. I had to reset the front window glass in the channel forward a half-inch as well as realign the doors. :banghead: The glass now ...

Re: '66 Sprint Convertible resto aka "my first car/first Corvair"
You’ve done a great job so far Craig! That’s a great story. Keep posting lots of photos. I’m putting mine back together as well and believe I can learn a lot from watching your progress. I also bought Rex’s rear-end tool and still have it in my car. Works great! Jeff at the Ranch pointed me to Rex. ...
