Re: Broken Rocker Stud

I "believe" I got my ARP rocker arm studs from Clarks 20 some odd years ago. They were bought to use Harlan Sharpe roller rockers for a 140 that I had then and changed my mind and went to shaft mounted roller rockers that became available then, and ended up using the rocker arm studs on my...

Re: Turbo Tech: 7sec boost run(s) compared - draw through & blow through

Could the lower boost on the blow through system simply be the result of better flow through the carbs? Theres 3 reasons why that isnt what is happening. The first is that the draw through doesnt have any carbs where the blow through has them and is more or less flowing as a perfect round hole, so ...

Re: Turbo Tech: 7sec boost run(s) compared - draw through & blow through

If its a machined housing it will only be around 1.8" at the inlet. I had one of these and it was not a stock housing but did have a three bolt triangle flange as though it was a F housing and turbo. In fact, I ran it for a long time and thought it was a stock F. But then with the carb off and ...

Re: Turbo Tech: 7sec boost run(s) compared - draw through & blow through

Another geeky observation that I made- The E-flow seems to only gain .5 psi over the F at the same engine rpm. As big as the inlet inducers are on those, I wonder if the compressor housing on the E is a machined F. If it is the graph makes a lot more sense because those machined housings are the sam...

Re: Fan belt roller guide demonstration

Today a different autocrosser tried out his roller guide and now officially owns the rpm record at 6800 rpm. This was done with a full size mag fan, steel pulleys and an extra tight fan belt. I expect he will be breaking his own rpm record fairly soon when he has a need to change his rev limit to 7k...

Re: WTB Turbo cam

AFAIK, all the OTTO cams are slightly different than they were priorr to clarks buyout, but don't quote me. Here's the current specs on the TB10 and TB20 There is something very wrong with the TB 20 exhaust numbers. They can not be the same as the TB 10 while having more listed duration. The exhaus...

Re: Electric Corvair ---

No, its a real Turbocharger, meaning the exhaust "runs" the compressor, but has a big powerfull electric motor between the exhaust turbine and the inlet compressor and can spin the turbo to 200000 rpm. Garret has been a pioneer on these systems https://www.garrettmotion.com/knowledge-cente...

Re: Electric Corvair ---

A basic problem with a all electric Corvair is that the body just doesnt allow for a lot of room for batterys so the range ends up being fairly limited unless radical surgery is done. I do think it would be pretty cool to do a hybrid though. Kind of wild what can happen when hybrid tech is really pu...

Re: Fan belt roller guide demonstration

It is good to see that the roller guide is progressing with positive results. Curious, at the stated 6,400 RPM has anyone calculated how many RPM the roller is turning at? It is a small fraction of the crank pulley and must be spinning at some, 5 maybe 6 digit RPM! Just kind of roughing it out, at ...

Re: Fan belt roller guide demonstration

This past weekend, probably one of the toughest tests for the roller guide happened. The engine is a 3.1 liter triple throat weber running a Nashfan, aluminum airflow pulley and aluminum idler pulley, and a fairly nasty cam. Its an autocross car and in the past it has tossed belts or rolled them eve...

Re: Cylinder Spacers

I ran .040" over 64 cylinders on my turbo at far higher than stock boost without issue. I later converted to the 65 and later style cylinders when it was convenient to do so, but that was for "extra" overkill. My recollection was approximately 18-20psi, although it was only for short ...
